TOTD: Cloud Daddy & the Kingston Big Smokes “Two Things”

Looking for that Netflix and chill song to start your night out right? This is that groove for you. Two Things is one of the groups debut tracks on a double comprised of this song and Elizabeth, and we couldn’t be more stoked about it. The lyrics are very pointed, and take you on a smooth ride where there are only two stops: weed bags and you. I mean, I guess it’s more like those two things are already on the ride, and you make no stops; you just float. I mean, the lyrics may seem a bit on the nose, but I think that’s kind of the point here. This isn’t a song built to answer deep philosophical questions. This is a song to smoke to.

All I want to do in this life,
is suck on a bag (filled with weed).
All I want to do in this life,
is fall in love with you (endlessly).
And suck on a bag

The track itself is so complex, building to cacophonous dissonance at some points before pulling everything back in to slick bass lines and what sounds like R2-D2 samples. I’m pumped to see what these guys bring to the table going forward because their debut is lights out. It serves its purpose, it’s complex, and it makes you move. What else is there?

TOTD: CARDS “One Too Many Movies”

CARDS hit hard with his newest release, “One Too Many Movies,” a soulful cruising jam just in time for the summer heat. This track will have you wearing a wide brimmed hat and coasting on a beach cruiser if you aren’t careful, and depending on how far you live from the beach, that could land you in hot water at work.

One Too Many Movies is his most recent release in a string of single releases that will carry through until his first full-length release this fall. After listening through a few of his songs, one thing that is really amazing is that none of the songs sound even remotely similar, but you can still tell they were arranged by the same person.

If you’re looking for a track to add to your summer vacation playlist, you road trip playlist, or really a playlist for any situation where groove is important, “One Too Many Movies” has to make the cut.

Morning Commute: Keyiente “Why Don’t You”

Sometimes on the Morning Commute we like to get you pumped up with a headstrong jam, and sometimes we like to get introspective and use the commute as a way to figure out where you want not only the day to take you, but the future. Today, we just want to groove. It’s Friday, so let’s get the party started on the way to work this morning.

This NYC singer and songwriter has been making music since the ripe old age of seven, and it definitely shows in this reggae meets hip-hop track. Lyrically, it is exactly what you want the song to be. A track like this shouldn’t dive into problems like depression, politics, or heartbreak like so many of the songs we share. This song has one goal, and that’s to have a good time. With that goal in mind, Keyiente is the Lionel Messi of music.

“Why don’t you come, come,
and shake that bum, bum?”
