Jack Landess wrote “Everytime” for his partner, Jane, and its one demand is that she stay exactly who she is, on the hard days and the great ones. The opening verse sets the terms: look into his eyes, skip the analysis, and just don’t forget him.

The request never changes, but the arrangement keeps growing around it. Landess, a Springfield, Ohio native now based in Nashville, produces his own records, often from a bedroom studio, and he blends indie rock with the shimmer of surf pop and soft ambient texture. Here the song starts nearly bare, then lo-fi drums slip in with dreamy electric guitar lines curling around them, and the full band holds off until the chorus.
The second verse shows what he plans to offer in return. He admires her good heart and her smile, and he promises encouragement for her low moments: “Oceans of words to build you up / For when you’re feelin small.” The bridge then gathers every laugh, every cry and every look in her eyes into the same steady devotion.
Landess keeps the words plain and lets the music do the swelling, so the chorus lands with the same rush as the feeling it describes. He’s at work on a debut album, Golden Sun, about his partner, his faith and the natural world, and “Everytime” proves he has the first of those subjects well in hand.
