Worldcub – “Back to the Beginning”: Surfing Through Time and Space

Welsh band Worldcub is back with “Back to the Beginning,” a retro-futuristic single from their upcoming album, blending kraut-rock, surf-guitar, and vocal harmonies.

Strap on your space helmet and get ready to ride the cosmic waves, because Welsh psych-rock explorers Worldcub are back with a brand new single that’s guaranteed to bend your mind and shake your booty. “Back to the Beginning” is the title track from their upcoming album, and it’s a kraut-rock-infused, surf-guitar-drenched, vocal-harmony-soaked journey through the wormholes of time and the keyholes of memory.

Piloted by brothers Cynyr and Dion Hamer, Worldcub have been making waves (pun intended) in the psych-rock scene since their early days as CaStLeS, drawing inspiration from the likes of Paul McCartney and Nigerian funk maestro William Onyeabor. But with “Back to the Beginning,” they’ve truly hit their stride, crafting a sound that’s equal parts retro and futuristic, nostalgic and forward-thinking.

From the moment the track kicks off with its rumbling kraut-rock groove, you know you’re in for a wild ride. Spacey guitar licks and splashes of keyboards swirl around your head like a cosmic cocktail, while the Hamer brothers’ floating harmonies guide you deep into the heart of the melody. It’s a sound that’s at once wistful and hopeful, yearning for a lost past while eagerly anticipating an unknown future.

But “Back to the Beginning” is just the tip of the iceberg when it comes to Worldcub’s new album. Across 14 lucid and addictive tracks, the band takes you on a trip through time and space, from the woozy, Nuggets-inspired “Grog” to the haunting, bossa-nova-tinged “One Small Mistake.” There’s even a couple of Welsh-language tracks thrown in for good measure, just to keep you on your toes.

Of course, none of this would be possible without the Hamer brothers’ DIY ethos and their trusty home studio in the hills of Eryri. It’s there that they splice together the disparate elements of their sound – the surf guitars, the kraut-rock grooves, the hypnotic vocal harmonies – into a cohesive whole that’s greater than the sum of its parts. And with the addition of new band members Calvin Thomas on bass and Jasmine Roberts on guitar, Worldcub’s sonic palette has only gotten richer and more vibrant.

But don’t just take our word for it – the music world has already taken notice of Worldcub’s unique brand of psych-rock alchemy. Their debut album “Fforesteering” earned them coverage in The Guardian and UNCUT Magazine, airplay on BBC Radio 6 Music and Radio 1, and a coveted spot on the BBC Introducing stage at Reading & Leeds Festival. And with a string of successful live shows under their belt, including appearances at Liverpool Psych Fest and FOCUS Wales, it’s clear that Worldcub are a force to be reckoned with on stage as well as in the studio.

So what are you waiting for? Hop in Worldcub’s cosmic surf van and let them take you on a journey “Back to the Beginning” – a journey through time, space, and the outer reaches of your own mind. With their killer hooks, trippy soundscapes, and infectious grooves, Worldcub are the perfect guides for this psychedelic odyssey. Just don’t forget your sunscreen – those cosmic rays can be brutal.
